Paddle boards are not allowed at Lake Balboa due to the unsanitary water conditions.

For Lake Balboa Park reservations please  call (818) 756-8187, at least one month prior to requested event date. Permits are granted upon availability and departmental approval– you are not guaranteed a location or date until a permit is processed. Unpermitted events and moonbouncers are subject to citation.

Kayak classes and passes are now available online. You can register online at Lake Balboa Kayak Class. Fill out the Kayak Fitness Program Training Verification Form. After filling out the form please email [email protected]. Purchase passes online at Kayak Passes

Fishing

A license is required for patrons 16 years and older and California Department of Fish and Game regulations apply. Fishing is restricted to specific grass areas adjoining the water. Fishing from the walkway is prohibited (except for wheelchair bound persons).

Kites and Model Rockets

Kites are restricted to the open area near the park entrance west of Bull Creek. Kite flying in the vicinity of the walkways is prohibited. Model rockets of all types are prohibited.

Pets

Pets are allowed in the park with the following restrictions:

1. Animals must be on a leash
2. Owners are responsible for removing pet defecation
3. Dogs are not permitted to swim in the lake

Remote Control Boating

Both remote control electric and sailboats are permitted. Gas powered boats are prohibited. The cove north of the launch ramp is designated for remote control use. Boat operators should check with others in the area to prevent channel overlap.

Walk / Jog Path

A 1.3 mile footpath surrounds the lake and is restricted to foot traffic except for wheelchairs and baby strollers. A specially designated path for non-motorized, wheeled vehicles winds through the park. The path is connected to a series of bike paths throughout the Sepulveda Basin.

Water Quality / Fowl

Water Quality

Swimming and other forms of water contact are prohibited. Lake Balboa is filled with water reclaimed from domestic use. The water is mechanically and chemically treated before release into the lake. The water makes its way through the lake before discharge into the Los Angeles River Channel.

Water Fowl

Section 63.44M of the Municipal Code prohibits the feeding of water fowl and the releasing of domesticated animals on park property.
